Annual woodturning exhibit returns to WCA

The Gault and Looney Galleries at the Wayne Center for the Arts will soon have new pieces of artwork for the community.
The Looney Gallery will feature the North Coast Woodturners’ annual exhibit. The opening reception will take place at Wayne Center for the Arts on Aug. 31 from 5-7 p.m. and will be on display through Sept. 30. The exhibit started in 2008 and has been presented annually. North Coast Woodturners were the first chapter formed of the American Association of Woodturners and formed in 1986.
“We are pleased to be working with the talented artisans of the North Coast Woodturners to display their beautiful work,” WCA Executive Director Sara Brink said. “I encourage members of the community to stop in and enjoy this remarkable exhibit.”
There will be pieces available to purchase as well.
Local artist Valentin Reyes will present his first solo show, “Love, Tino.” The exhibit will showcase colorful, gestural paintings.
“My work comes from my feelings and things I have lived through or seen. The only thing that has ever been consistent in my life has been my art, so in a sense, you all get an inside look into my soul,” Reyes said.
The exhibit will open in the Gault Gallery with a reception on Sept. 1 from 5-7 p.m. and run through Sept. 16.
Many of Reyes' pieces feature hearts. “It's easy to express feelings and emotions with hearts. That's why I love painting them. They can convey any sentiment,” he said.
Some of Reyes’ artwork will be available to purchase.
The public is welcome to visit the galleries during WCA’s normal business hours Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
