Annual Scarf Project seeks help

The Scarf Project began in 2016 when New Philadelphia resident Toni Kaltenbaugh saw a video on Facebook of ladies hanging scarves in a park somewhere in one of the western states for individuals to anonymously take.
She shared that video and said she thought it was a great idea. It has since taken on a life of its own. The 2016 initiative resulted in 123 scarves and one location, Rite Aide in New Philadelphia.
In 2022 it was much larger. They had over 2,000 scarves, plus hats, gloves and mittens. There were 21 locations over Tuscarawas, Stark, Guernsey and Cuyahoga counties.
The hats, gloves and mittens are matched with the scarves at the Tuck, Tag and Match event to be held Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. and lasting until all possible sets are identified, tagged, counted and bagged for distribution. This event will be held at a home in Dover. Call Kaltenbaugh at 330-432-1930 for the address of the Tuck, Tag and Match event. Text is preferred. Plan to bring a snack to share and a beverage of choice.
Donations for this year’s distribution can be dropped off on the back porch of 730 Tuscarawas Ave. NW in New Philadelphia prior to Oct. 17. Donations received after that date will be held until 2024.
The Scarf Project operates 100% on donations. They are requesting donations of gas cards for the individuals distributing the scarves and monitoring the locations.
