Amateur cooks needed at Twin City Festival

The Twin City Fall Festival is looking for amateur cooks to enter its cooking competitions at the festival on Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Uhrichsville on East Third Street.
Cooks can enter one or more of three competitions — pies, cupcakes and cookies, and a chili cookoff — for a chance to win cash and a trophy.
For the pie competition, there are two categories: fruit and cream. Everything should be made from scratch by amateur cooks. First place will receive a trophy and $25, and second place will receive a trophy and $15.
For the cupcakes and cookies competition, there will be awards for first and second place for both categories. Everything is to be made from scratch. First-place winners will receive a trophy and $25, and second-place winners will receive a trophy and $15.
There are two categories in the chili cookoff: regular and spicy, although no extreme spicy heat is allowed. There will be three awards at the chili cookoff. First place will receive a trophy and $50, second place will receive a trophy and $35, and the winner of the People’s Choice will receive a trophy and $25.
“We would like to see more people participate and enter the contests this year,” organizer Kathy Allen said, adding the prize money for the chili cookoff was raised this year. Allen is the owner of Ribbon & Wire Designs.
Sponsors for the event are RK Lindsey Funeral Home Inc., Pangrazio’s Pizza & Spaghetti House, Fab Ohio, First National Bank of Dennison, Bloom’s Printing and First Federal Community Bank.
There will be more than 50 vendors at the event including a new vendor of hard tack candy, Rainbow Rhapsody Candy.
There also will be a vendor who sells chocolates.
“She sells buckeyes and some other chocolates. Every time I get down there, she’s always out of those. She sells out fast,” Allen said. “So she’s going to bring a bunch more. Hopefully, she doesn’t sell out too soon.”
There also will be craft vendors, a few direct sales vendors, baked goods and some other organizations.
“I do have three food trucks coming: Chick-fil-A, Fat Bottom BBQ & Grill and Enticing Cakes,” Allen said.
Grilled pizza also will be available.
A new restaurant that will open soon on Third Street will have samples available at the festival.
The Tuscarawas County Special Olympics organization will have a 50/50 fundraiser.
“The Claymont cheerleaders are going to perform, and they will also have a table,” Allen said.
Other activities include a coloring contest for children. There is one page for children age 6-9 and another for children age 10-13. The pages are available online or at the Claymont Public Library in Uhrichsville.
There will be free pumpkins for the kids, as long as they last, and Character Express will be there.
“J.J. and Bluey will be back,” Allen said. The characters will be there from 1-3 p.m.
Music will be available during the event with a car show on Uhrich Street playing oldies, disc jockey Terry Sutton playing music on Third Street and Mike Camp playing music near the Clay Museum.
“I’m hoping for good weather, lots of people and for everyone to have a good time,” Allen said.
More information on all activities is available on Facebook at Twin City Fall Festival 2023. There is car show information available at Twin City Fall Festival car show 2023. The car show is cars, trucks, motorcycles and semi-trucks (cabs only).
