18th Century Colonial Trade Fair is Aug. 5-6

School may not be in session yet, but one upcoming event offers a great opportunity to learn some American history.
History buffs and visitors to the Mohican area can attend the annual 18th Century Colonial Trade Fair at the Wolf Creek Grist Mill Historic Park and Museum.
Held Aug. 5 and 6, visitors to the Colonial Trade Fair will get a taste of what life was like in days gone by. According to Wolf Creek Grist Mill’s Facebook page, visitors to the event will find the reenactors dressed authentically and cooking and camping as they would have lived on the frontier in colonial times.
The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, with free admission and free parking.
Cannons, musket demonstrations and battle reenactments are just a few of the attractions offered throughout the event, said Mark Smith, founder and president of the Wolf Creek Grist Mill Museum. It also will show different people showing how to make things during colonial times.
The trade fair will incorporate about 100 reenactors representing the French, Native Americans, Americans and British in colonial America.
Smith approximated the event has been going on for about 20 years, always at the Grist Mill.
Colonial Trade Fair includes reenactors from all over Ohio, with several participants from Loudonville. Smith said these individuals perform in events throughout the United States.
Smith said the Colonial Trade Fair is always a large draw, with about 300-400 people visiting the event each year.
“It’s something nice to do if you are camping in the Mohican area,” Smith said.
In addition to the fair, the Grist Mill’s museum will be open during the event and also has free admission. The Wolf Creek Grist Mill Historic Park and Museum is located at 3190 state Route 3 in Loudonville.
