16th annual Mohican 5k to run Nov. 4 in Loudonville

The 16th annual Mohican 5k will take place Saturday, Nov. 4 in Loudonville.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Loudonville-Mohican bike path.
“(The proceeds) help maintain the bike path and improve it when there’s chips or something in it or something like that or if anything needs maintenance or improved,” said Valerie Spreng, Loudonville Chamber of Commerce executive director. “It goes towards all that.”
The top three finishers in each of the eight age groups — 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus — will all receive a medal. The top overall male and female finishers will receive a trophy. As of Oct. 24, there were 140 people signed up for the race, with more expected in the coming days.
The registration fee for those who sign up before Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. is $30 for adults and $20 for students age 17 and under. Those interested in competing can sign up online at https://runsignup.com/Race/Register/?raceId=75395.
The registration fee goes up $5 for those who wait to sign up until race day. Sign-in and late registrations will take place from 7:45-8:45 a.m., with the race starting at 9 a.m.
The race path will be an out and back, starting on Wally Road and finishing on the bike path.
Participants will go down Wally Road and then get onto the bike path, running along state Route 3 and going a bit past Mohican Adventures. They will then turn around, cross Wally Road and come back on the bike path on the other side of the road, finishing in the woods just below the bridge that goes across to Riverside Park.
“A lot of people do this every year, and they have so much fun going through the woods, and it’s usually October-Novemberish, so the fall foliage looks really pretty,” Spreng said. “Everyone usually has a really good time doing this.”
