River View Community Swimming Pool will not open in 2024

Published Modified
Upon examination by the engineers, it was discovered the wall panels and piping should be replaced. The type of wall panel used was cast into the concrete floor and deck during original construction in 1968/1969. Wall panel replacement would likely impact the floor and the concrete deck. Also, the cast iron support structures buried in the ground outside the stainless steel walls have completely corroded. Based on the age and condition of many of the critical pool components, total replacement of the walls, floor, and deck would likely be required.
Warsaw Village Council is currently in the process due diligence in gathering information as to the cost of replacement of the pool, as repair is no longer a feasible option.
It will not be possible for the pool to open this coming 2024 swim season. When a decision is made on the long term status of the pool, it will be announced at that time.
This was a very difficult decision, and there may be harder decisions ahead. But the park board, Warsaw Village Council, and countless individuals and organizations over the decades have done everything possible to keep the pool operating to this point.
The expected lifespan of the pool when opened in 1969 was 35-40 years. Last summer it completed its 54th season. While park board and council members hope it was not the final summer for the pool, please rest assured that the River View Community Park will continue to explore any and all opportunities to provide sports and recreation facilities of which the residents of Warsaw and the surrounding communities can be proud.
