Zoar Community Association Garden Tour slated for June 26

The Zoar Community Association is inviting the public to visit the gardens and backyards of Zoar Village and attend the Beyond the Fences of Zoar Garden Tour and Luncheon on Saturday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.This special event includes tours of eight private Zoar gardens and three public gardens. There will be a luncheon seating with a silent auction at the Zoar schoolhouse, catered by Chef Michael Smith of Trax Diner and featuring the music of fiddler Heather Malyak at noon. Beyond the Fences of Zoar also features a mini-gardening seminar series with 11 garden professionals located in the historic buildings and private historic homes and wine cellars. Rita Mullet, master gardener, will speak on Shady Ideas for Your Garden, and creating a Living Wreath for Shade. Doug Parkinson, a passionate gardener and plantsman who is the southeast regional sales manager for Proven Winners, will present a seminar and introduce new plants from Proven Winners. Barb Miller, owner of Miller’s Greenhouse, will present a workshop on miniature gardens and have mini gardens and accessories available for purchase in the Zoar gardens where the artisans and crafters will be located. Fred Miller, president and curator for the Tuscarawas County Historical Society, will present the history of Zoar in pictures at the Zoar church. The event also features Pam McWhorter, director of the Zoar Arboretum, presenting a workshop on Rain Gardens and Prairie Gardens. In the main Zoar garden, Libby Moffat, of the Historic Zoar Garden Club, will present the history of the Zoar garden. Randy Rybarczyk, professional beekeeper, will present Bees in the Garden and emphasize the importance of this aspect of nature in our gardens. Cindy Petitti, owner and manager of Petitti Garden Center and Landscaping, will present Gardening Organically. Amy Graham, of Breitenbach Winery, will be in the wine cellar of a historic home to present From Vine to Table. In one of the historic buildings join Eunice Shonk, master gardener, presenting a workshop on Weeds, Weather and Wildlife – Coping with Garden Challenges. The Ohio Historical buildings are open for self-guided tours and admission is included with either ticket price. Guided tours of the Ohio Historical Society buildings may be purchased for an additional cost. Both garden tour ticket prices include access to all of the gardens, seminars and vendors. There are also several antique and gift shops located in the village and the Town Hall Museum and Zoar Store Gift Shop will also be open. Luncheon tickets must be prepaid. Garden tour and seminar only tickets may be prepaid and will also be sold on the day of the event at the registration table in the Zoar church parking lot and the First Street parking lot until noon and after that at the Zoar Store.
