Wooster Girl Scouts recently held a memorial service to honor girls and adults who had been active in Girl Scouting and have passed away. This is the 91st year of holding this memorial service.

The service, held at the Wooster Cemetery, included representatives of Girl Scouts and members of the families of some of the 55 Girl Scouts remembered. A geranium was placed at each gravesite.

The greeter was Donna Dravenstott while caller for the flag was Dotty Ridenour, who also took attendance. Michelle McClure handed out song sheets for “Hymn of Scouting,” “America, the Beautiful” and taps.

The service was held in the cemetery’s restored chapel. It was opened with the presentation of the American flag by bearer Victoria Baker, Senior Troop 1695, with color guards Nora Burge of Troop 4239, Daisy Troop and Cora Krichbaum of Troop 4239, Junior Troop 643. Bearer of the World Association flag was Sophia Sterner, Junior Troop 3559, and Girl Scout flag bearer was Alex Barker, Junior Troop 3559.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, a poem, “The Golden Chain,” was read by Heather Ernsberger, Troop 643. The names of the girls and adults remembered were read by Linda Wood, Troop 1348. “Hymn of Scouting” and “America, the Beautiful” were led by Jen Moser and sung in memory of honored Scouts and rededication to the promise each has taken.

The service concluded with the singing of the taps, played be Jen Moser, and retiring of the American flag.

Wooster Girl Scouts helped with putting flags on the veteran graves at Wooster Cemetery. They also marched in the Memorial Day Parade.
