Wm. G. Bill Oliver
Wm. G. Bill Oliver, 91, of Killbuck went home with our Lord Monday, June 23, 2014.He was born in Canton to Glennwood and Helen (Fox) Oliver. After serving in WWII from 1942 to 1946 he married Dorothy L. Sechler June 14, 1948.Wild Bill, as he was known, was an avid race fan and drove the northern NASCAR circuit full time for many years in the 50s. After their daughter, Cheryl, was born, he settled for driving at local race tracks in Ohio. He was track champion at several race tracks and is still remembered by many fans.Bill worked his entire life as a mechanic and was well-known as being able to fix anything on a car. He farmed in Carroll County and at the same time drove school bus for more than 25 years. Many of his kids still remember riding on his bus. He was the best ever, they say. He started working at Buckeye JVS when it opened in New Philadelphia in the maintenance department, where he retired.In addition to his daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Bob Ling, of Killbuck, he is survived by his sisters, Mary Eileen Starkey of Canton and Kathleen Blandford of Louisville, many nieces and nephews, a cousin, Jessie Wilhour of Florida, and a brother-in-law, Robert Sechler of Florida.When his wife, Dorothy, passed away in 2008, he continued to live with his daughter and her husband until a severe stroke in 2013. He enjoyed having family around him all the time, and especially enjoyed his dog, Jack, whom he rescued and spent many hours cuddling with in his chair. The family has truly enjoyed their years with him and especially enjoyed the stories of the old racing days.Bill was very well-respected and liked by everyone he knew. He never met a stranger and he was always the first one to help someone in need. His quick wit and sense of humor entertained many with his pranks. He enjoyed the frequent continued visits from his friends and former coworkers.After Bills stroke, he lived at Majora Lane Care Center in Millersburg where he received the finest and most loving care from every person there. He was loved by the entire staff.Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014 with a brief memorial service starting at 3 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to Alexander Funeral Home, P.O. Box 108, Millersburg 44654 to help defray funeral expenses.
