William David Saunders, 89, of Dover, died Feb. 2, 2010, in Columbus, from natural causes.Born Jan. 16, 1921, in Wooster, David was a son of the late John L. and Anna Saunders. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII and was employed by Republic Steel Corp., Massillon, from which he retired.David was a faithful, active member of First Baptist Church, Dover, where for many years he served the church community by delivering food, providing janitorial support, printing the Sunday bulletin, and singing while his wife played the piano. He also achieved his ministerial credentials and he went on the further serve surrounding communities and the West Indies.Surviving are sons, Willy (Sally) Saunders of California City, Calif., and Stephen Saunders of Columbus; daughters, Anita (Steve) Horton of Wilkesboro, N.C., and Wendy (Johnny) Smith of California City; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie L. Saunders, whom he married in 1949; a grandson, David D. Saunders; a sister; and a brother.Services were held Feb. 13, 2010, at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover.
