Willard Joseph “Joe” Leggett, age 79 of New Philadelphia, died on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at New Dawn Health Care Centre in Dover.

Born on Jan. 9, 1939, in his home in Strasburg, he was the son of the late Loren Willard and Mary (Farner) Leggett. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Donald J. Leggett, and brother in-law, Ronald Wallace.

Joe graduated from New Philadelphia High School with the class of 1957. He retired from Buehler’s in Dover, where he was a meat cutter for over 20 years. He also was a proud reserved deputy for the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Department for many years. He was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks. He enjoyed guns and in his younger years loved going shooting.

On May 9, 1958, Joe married the love of his life, Erlyne Wallace, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He also is survived by his niece, Valerie Leggett of New Philadelphia; nephew, Donald (Vi) Leggett of Bolivar; cousins, Joyce and John Frank of New Philadelphia; and several great nieces and nephews.

In honoring Joe’s wishes, a private service for the family will take place at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover. There will not be any public services or calling hours.
