West Holmes recognizes spring sports athletes

Special awards and letters were presented to spring sports athletes at various ceremonies and banquets recently at West Holmes High School.

Luke Morris won two awards for the Knights track team, taking home the awards for most points and for top sprinter. Jared Zollars was the top distance runner and Jeremy Anderson won the award for top field events. Anderson, Zollars and Nick Wolff were all fourth-year letter winners for the Knights. Nate Frank, Brett McClain, Grant Strouse and Quin Strouse each earned third-year awards. Joey Alexander, Sloan Le and Morris were second-year award winners and first-year letters went to Cully Gordon, Tylor Grant and Andrew Rose.

Jasmine Troyer took home two special awards for most points and as the top sprinter for the Lady Knights track team. Troyer also earned a fourth-year award, as did Macy Adkins and Lorraine Strouse. Adkins also earned the award for top distance runner, and Haley Polen took home the top field events award. Polen and Morganne Fair also received third-year awards. Rebecca Chamberlin and Nichole Peterman were second-year award winners, and Amy Boyd, Brooke Landon, Kendra Martin, Tiffany Mullet and Rachil Reynolds were all first-year award winners.

Brendan Lynch took home a pair of awards from the tennis banquet. Lynch was MVP and won the award for best record. Rachel Koch was the most improved player and Ethan Rawson won the JV player of the year award.

Lynch, Sam Meyer, Collin Galbraith, Michael Anthony and Parker Abraham were all second-year award winners, and Koch, Ricky Guerra and Danny Nelson were first-year award winners.

Joey Gonzalez was a three-time winner for the West Holmes baseball team. The sophomore was the team MVP, the slugging award and defensive award winner. Mason James won the offensive award and Stewart Sabine won the coaches award. Gonzalez, Kyle Hanna, Brant Miller and Bryce Norman were second-year award winners. First-year awards went to: Dustin Carder, Cody Dial, James, Keaton Leppla, Aaron McKee, Cory McVicker, Derek Reusser, Sabine, Gabe Snyder and Steve Thomas.

Brooke Landon was the MVP of the Lady Knights softball team. Kara Schrock won the offensive MVP award and Ayla Uhl the defensive MVP. Shelbie Henderson won the coaches award and Courtney Wigton was most improved.

Uhl also earned a fourth-year award. Third-year awards went to Kayla Boals, Henderson, Emily Ross and Courtney Shane. Kelsey Arnold, Landon, Schrock and Wigton were second-year award winners, and Hannah Frank, Kara Barnes and Kylie Hawkins were first-year award winners.
