VIDEO: Hiland vs West Holmes Girls Basketball Highlights

The Lady Knights used a 17-7 run in the third quarter to overcome their cross-county rival Hiland 58-38, Saturday night December 7th in the Dungeon at West Holmes High School.
West Holmes was led by senior post Laina Snyder who scored 12 first half points and then followed that effort in the second half with 11 points for the game-high 23. Regina Hostetler led the Lady Hawks with 20 points in the effort including 10-for-10 from the charity stripe.
It wasn't all West Holmes all the time though. Hiland got out to a 5-0 lead when Hostetler made one of her two 3-pointers on the night to get the Hawks out of the gate quickly. Eventually Snyder and company would get back in the contest at 11-11 when Laina banked home a right hand hook off the block. After one quarter Hiland led on a pair of free-throws from Jenica Schrock, 13-11.
A low scoring second quarter saw West Holmes outscore Hiland just 10-6 during a quarter that saw three lead changes. A Brittleigh Macaulay layup with 3:28 to play in the quarter was the final bucket of the period with a ton of time to play in the half. No one would score the rest of the quarter and Hiland would never see the lead again.
During the third quarter run, the X-factor for West Holmes came out and shined. 3-point specialist, Knights' guard Paiten Strother. Strother buried two big 3-pointers from the left corner that splashed the Knights into the lead not only for good, but the Lady Knights were able to extend their lead in the quarter to 39-26 at the end of the period.
The Hawks kept the game close with a Emily Yoder layup with 6:10 to play in the game that cut the Lady Knights lead to 11 points, but that would be as close as the Hawks would get.
