'Twain by Two' coming to TCPL

With more than 35 years of experience Mark Dawidziak will perform as Mark Twain in a one-act collection of Mark Twain's material on Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library of the Tuscarawas County Public Library System, located at 121 Fair Ave. NW, New Philadelphia.

“We are honored to have such a knowledgeable and notable performer at our library,” public service associate Debra Cahill said. “He has written over 20 books, and several will be available for purchase and signing.”

Dawidziak, an internationally recognized Twain scholar, will perform alongside his wife Sara Showman in “Twain by Two.” The performance includes excerpts from “Huckleberry Finn” and “Eve's Diary.” The pair are the co-founders of Largely Literary Theater Company, and Dawidziak is currently the television critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

“This is an incredibly special show for me,” Dawidziak said. “I not only get to share Mark Twain with the audience, I get to share the stage with my wife. And this show allows us to present the many sides of Mark Twain, from the wild humorist and satirist to the social critic and beloved author.”

The pair have taken their act to such venues as the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, Connecticut, and the Center for Mark Twain Studies in Elmira, New York. Dawidziak also has been officially sanctioned by fellow Mark Twain impersonator and critically acclaimed actor Hal Holbrook.

Cahill said before the performance members of the Dover High School Orchestra will perform at 6 p.m. with a Q-and-A session and a book signing following the program.
