Tuscarawas County Cattle Association 2010 banquet held Feb. 8
Kaitlyn Hinds, a 16-year-old sophomore at Newcomerstown High School, has been crowned 2010 Tuscarawas County Cattle Association (TCCA) Queen.Kaitlyn said she enjoyed representing the cattle association during 2009, and looks forward to continue being their queen for another year.The queens sister, Kelsie, a 15-year-old Newcomerstown High School freshman, will be Kaitlyns first attendant. The girls are daughters of Kevin and Gladys Hinds of Newcomerstown.Sue Miskimen, a junior at Buckeye Career Center, was chosen second attendant. She is a daughter of Ken and Lisa Miskimen of Stone Creek.The girls were crowned during the TCCA 20th annual banquet and meeting held Feb. 8 in Dutch Valley Restaurant at Sugarcreek.Kaitlyn, an eight-year member of Country Kids and Critters 4-H Club, takes market steers, beef breeding and market lamb projects. She is a member of the Tuscarawas County Livestock Judging Team and Junior Fair Board and serves as a camp counselor.The queen also takes sewing projects, and is very active on the yearbook staff and Athletic Leadership Council at school.Kelsie has been a member of Country Kids and Critters 4-H Club for seven years, taking market steers, heifers and market hogs. She is a member of the Tuscarawas County Livestock Judging Team.In school, she is involved in the student community service program and is a member of the yearbook staff.Sue, an 11-year member of Angel Valley Rosebuds & Ramblers 4-H Club, has taken market steer projects for five years. She is a camp counselor and is involved in her church as a group leader and mentor for fifth-grade girls.Michelle Evans was in charge of the queen contest. Kevin Hinds, Jerry Prysi, Fred Tuerler, Justin Specht, and Guy Zeigler were elected to the board of directors for a two-year term. They will join five other directors, Neil Frey, Donnie Himes, Kriss Raber, Doyle Shoup and Dean Prysi, whose terms expire in 2011.Jerry Prysi is president of the board, Donnie Himes, treasurer and Kriss Raber, secretary. Himes reported profits from the 2009 Tuscarawas County Fair totaled $10,985.18. A total of 7,909 sandwiches, 4,697 beverages, and 5,884 slices of cheese were sold during the fair.He also reported that sales from the beef trailer in 2009 included 12,233 sandwiches, along with 8,210 beverages, and 9,028 slices of cheese.According to Himes, the cattle association was able to provide $2,300 in scholarships for county youth studying in the field of agriculture.Kim Davis, state trustee for the Ohio Farm Bureau, said developing a proactive response to the animal welfare challenge facing Ohio farmers remains a top priority.Mary Jane John gave information on future events, including the Ohio Beef Expo Bus trip March 20 and several events at the Norma Johnson Center.Entertainment was by Dean Armstrong, who provided cowboy poetry and rural humor.Jerry Prysi, president, welcomed members and guests and Robert Machan offered the invocation for the family style roast beef and chicken dinner.
