'The White Savage' outdoor drama to present its final performance
“The White Savage,” the outdoor drama that tells the incredible story of Revolutionary War-era renegade Simon Girty, will present its final performance on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 8:30 p.m. in the Schoenbrunn Amphitheatre in New Philadelphia, which is also the home of the outdoor drama “Trumpet In The Land.”
Whether it was just or not, Simon Girty was labeled a savage because of his strong alliance with the Native Americans and the British during the American Revolution. He was a complex, three-dimensional man as fierce as any Indian warrior, yet still willing to put his life on the line to plead for strangers' lives. He made a name for himself on the frontier of America when it took a strong man with a will of iron to survive.
Outdoor drama officials along with co-authors Joe Bonamico and Mark Durbin decided that after 20 years of successful productions it is time for a rest.
Joe said, “I will miss doing ‘The White Savage.' It was an incredible run. Directing is challenging, but directing a show you wrote adds a whole different dimension to the process. Bringing history to life every night takes a backseat to nothing.”
If you have seen “The White Savage,” see it again one more time. If you have not, don't miss this opportunity to see it before it's gone. Advance tickets can be purchased by phone with a Visa, Discover or Mastercard at 330-339-1132 or 330-364-5111. Tickets also are available at the door on the night of the performance.
