Spartans will unite, memories will roll during Millersburg High School Reunion Oct. 6
Well always be loyal and true, all through our school days and when we are through. Millersburg High three cheers for you, we pledge our hearts and ourselves to you.Ah, yes, the good old glory days of Millersburg High School, where green Spartans blood coursed through the veins of all who attended back in the day. While it has been a few years, 48 to be exact, since the actual town of Millersburg called itself home to a high school, chances are that quite a few can still recall those alma mater words that were so near and dear to their hearts. They will get a chance to recite the alma mater and a whole lot more on Saturday, Oct. 6, when an all-school reunion will take place at Millersburg Elementary during the annual Holmes County Antique Festival. The school is, of course, the former stomping ground of all former Millersburg High alumni, and the event should present plenty of opportunities to see old friends, rehash great memories, laugh, cry and bring back the good old days.It is all of those old memories that the organizers want to come to the forefront during the event.Theres a lot of memories out there from people who have attended Millersburg High over the years, and oftentime those memories go to the wayside, said Art Poulson, event chair. We want to create an opportunity for some of those memories to be rehashed. The reunion is open to anyone who ever attended Millersburg High, not just for those who have graduated. That means that classes who came along after that final graduating class in 1964 are welcome to come too. There are classes which would have gone out to West Holmes to school when we consolidated, that would have not graduated from Millersburg but still would have attended, said co-chair Dick Uhl. Everyone from the junior class in 1964 to kindergartners would have attended, and we want them to come too.Last year a larger contingent turned out for the event, and the auditorium was packed full of old Millersburg graduates who discussed everything from former teachers, antics, and sporting events to who used to date whom, and why they all seemed to get in just a little bit of trouble back in the day.The reunion provided the perfect opportunity to reminisce about the good old days, which for some didnt seem that long ago, while for others, it seemed like an eternity.Much like last years event, graduates and their spouses will begin signing in around noon, entering the old gymnasium where they had cheered their teams on to victory years ago, or some of whom even played starring roles on the basketball court.Tables will be set up inside, where old articles, paraphernalia, scrapbooks, photos and other interesting tidbits will be on display.Even the old Spartan school bell will provide a resounding 10 clangs to signify that school is definitely back in.The committee has been hard at work, preparing to make it a special event. Invitations have been sent out to many, but even if you havent received one and attended school there, you are invited to join in the festivities. We are encouraging everyone to spread the word and invite their friends and neighbors if they attended Millersburg High, said Poulson. We will tour the school and have a great time talking about the old days. This marks the third year for the reunion, the first taking place in 2006, then again last year. It was because it was met with such enthusiasm that the committee decided to have one every year. There will be light refreshments of cider and donuts served, and other than that, former Spartans need only to bring themselves to the shindig. We really had a great time last year, said Poulson. We talked about things I had long forgotten, like painting the windows for football games and some of the shenanigans we pulled. Its just a great trip down memory lane.Anyone interested in attending need not call or respond early. Simply show up, sign in and let the memories roll.
