Mabel F. Martin, of Millersburg, died Feb. 26, 2010, at her home. Her daughters were with her as she peacefully slipped away.Mabel was born Oct. 29, 1917, near Fredericksburg, to the late Cornelius J. and Clara Brown. She was a graduate of Fredericksburg High School and was an accomplished musician. She played accordion with the Weiss Family Orchestra and with Hans and Alice Grossniklaus, founders and previous owners of Alpine Alpa near Wilmot. She was employed by Fredericksburg Pottery, Holmesville Elementary, and Castle Nursing Homes, and was a member of Holmesville Federated Church and attended Millersburg Baptist Church after she moved to Millersburg in 1998.Surviving are daughters, Charlotte (Levi L.) Miller of Millersburg and Judith (Jak) Krauss of Hollywood, S.C.; three grandchildren, Todd Schonauer of Philadelphia, Pa., Amy (Romeo) Bermudez of Bloomfield, N.J., and Wendy Wood of Columbia, S.C.; three stepgrandchildren, Kevin and Wendell Miller of Sugarcreek and Debra (John) Kline of Millersburg; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Shauna and Emma Kline.She was preceded in death by her first husband, John T. “Tom” Wilson, whom she married in 1943; second husband, Lawrence D. “Dean” Martin, whom she married in 1978; daughter, Alice Kay Wilson; an infant grandson, Gregory Kyle Schonauer; brothers, William, Lawrence, and Walter Brown; and sister, Mary Cramer.Services will be held March 3, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Alexander Funeral Home, 8612 SR 39, Millersburg, with Pastors Bill Russell and Greg Lonsway officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Township Cemetery, Holmesville. Friends may call at the funeral home March 2, from 5-8 p.m.The family would like to thank Dr. Pierre Latouf of the Millersburg Clinic, the dedicated staff of Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, and Marlene Miller, Myra Gerber, and Sandy Hawkins for the excellent care provided to Mabel during her illness.
