OBITUARY
Betty Jean Carpenter, 66, of Newcomerstown, died March 5, 2010, at Union Hospital, Dover, following a brief illness.Born August 15, 1943, Betty was a daughter of the late Charles Albert and Jessie Leona Hart. A resident of the Port Washington area for most of her life, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who had also worked at Scio Pottery for many years until its closing. She later worked as a home health care aide for a number of area families, as well as for Tastee Apple for a short time.Surviving are her husband, Clayton James Carpenter, whom she married in 1960; children, Clayton J. Joe Carpenter Jr. (companion, Linda Bradford) of West Lafayette, Cathy Carpenter (companion, Jake Sugget) of Newcomerstown, Mark Carpenter of West Lafayette, and Beth (Paul) Felgenhauer of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Nile, Lance, Desmond, Tanesha, Brandy, Kierston, and Lucas; a great-grandchild, Darrin; sisters, Pauline (Tom) Wilson of Coshocton and Mary Carpenter of Dennison; brothers, Paul (Faith) Hart of Uhrichsville, James Hart of Newcomerstown, and David Hart of Uhrichsville; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Debbie Miller; and a close friend, Pauline Groff of Newcomerstown.She was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Charles, and Richard Hart; sisters, Margaret Maggie Orr, Annie E., Nettie Frances, and Theresa Hart; and brother-in-law, Leonard Carpenter.Betty was a caring woman who would do anything for her family and friends. She especially loved the time that she spent with her grandchildren and was an avid bingo player.Services will be held March 10, 2010, at 1 p.m., at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with Rev. Harry Milligan officiating. Interment will follow in Port Washington Salem Union Cemetery.
