Mary Virginia Butcher, 77, of New Philadelphia, died July 28, 2010, at Union Hospital, Dover, following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Creed and May O. Spiker, Mary was born August 21, 1932, in Grafton, W.Va. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1950.Mary will be remembered for having a passion for life, which a great part of included her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She often volunteered her time and donated to various charities. She also enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, and traveling to Amish Country to attend flea markets.Surviving are children, Dr. Ronald K. (Deb) Butcher of Pittman, N.J., Linda K. Mason of New Philadelphia, Kurt L. Butcher of Findlay, and Philip R. (Sarah) Butcher of New Philadelphia; daughter-in-law, Dee Butcher of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Hugh Butcher, whom she married in 1954; and brothers, John and Carl Spiker.Services were held August 2, 2010, at Ford Funeral Home, Grafton, W.Va., with Rev. Don Mason officiating.
