Denzel O. Pool, 87, of Dover, formerly of Canton, died July 6, 2010, at Schoenbrunn Health Care Center, New Philadelphia, following a period of declining health.A son of the late Samuel O. and Sarah Goldie Pool, Denzel was born Nov. 27, 1922, in New Matamoras. Following graduation from Lawrence High School, New Matamoras, he served as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1943-46. He was an aviation machinist, having been stationed at Great Lakes, Ill., and assigned to serve aboard the USS Intrepid. He was employed by the East Ohio Gas Company, where he held the position of inspector and retired in 1985 following 37 years of service.As a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses New Philadelphia Congregation, Denzel dedicated his life to God through the water of baptism.Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen Pool, whom he married in 1949; daughter, Debra (Darryl) Swier of New Philadelphia; son, Scott (Chris) Pool; sisters, Gladys Hackathorn of Navarre and Mary Louise Wiltshire of Canton; three grandchildren, Irene Pool, Shannon (Laurie) Swier of Warren, Mich., and Michael Pool; and two great-grandchildren, Garrett Swier and Tora Wilson.He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kirkbride; and brother, Harold Pool.Services were held July 10, 2010, at the Geib Funeral Center, Dover, with Alan Stutzman officiating.
