Paul D. Tharp, 63, of Dover, died June 27, 2010, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.Born Oct. 25, 1946, in Dennison, Paul was the son of the late Donald E. Tharp and Wanda L. Stone. He graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1964. Soon after graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country from 1966 until he was honorably discharged in 1972.Paul retired from Fleming Foods, Massillon, where he worked for many years. He was a member of Dover Alliance Church and the Pine Hill Hunting Club. He thrived by spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, or gardening. He also enjoyed playing cards with his close friends, which he was fortunate enough to have continued until just a few weeks ago.Surviving are his wife, Shirley Tharp, whom he married in 1974; sons, Shawn (Erika) Tharp of Dover and Nathan (Mindy) Tharp of Newark; two grandchildren, Ali and Brennan; and brother, Joe A. (Glenda) Tharp of Woodsboro, Texas.He was preceded in death by a nephew, Sam Sayre; and his grandmother, Josie Tharp.In honoring Pauls wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Memorial services will be held July 2, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Dover Alliance Church, with Pastor Rick Rose officiating.
