LaVerne David Horst, 86, of Smithville, died May 20, 2010, at Salem Community Hospital, following a sudden heart attack.LaVerne was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Burton City, to the late Albert and Elma Horst. He graduated from Dalton High School and worked 32 years on a retail egg delivery route in the Cleveland and Canton areas. In 1982, he co-founded NSWS Labs with his son-in-law and worked there for 15 years.LaVerne was baptized at Martins Mennonite Church and attended Wooster Evangel Assembly of God in recent years. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and working with farmers even after retirement, and especially loved spending time with his family.Surviving are his wife, Eileen Horst, whom he married in 1947; sons, Kenneth (Linda) Horst of Wooster, Larry (Debbi) Horst of Sarasota, Fla., and Everett Horst of Colleyville, Texas; daughter, Loretta (Merlin) Erb of Dalton; brothers, Melvin (Edie) Horst and Raymond (Ruth Ann) Horst, both of Columbiana, and Myron (Geneva) Horst of Dalton; eight grandchildren, Todd (Kim) Horst, Calvin (Heather) Horst, Ryan Horst, Krystle Horst, Courtney Horst, Benjamin (Ashley) Erb, Paul Erb, and Christopher Erb; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Lainey Horst; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by brothers, Chester K. and Albert “Jr.” Horst.Memorial services will be held May 24, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Martins Mennonite Church, with Pastors Randy Murray and Mark Ryder officiating.Online registry and expressions of condolence may be made at http://www.aublefuneralhome.com.Memorials may be made to the work of his great-nephew and wife, Joe and Jen Horst, intern missionaries to Bulgaria, c/o Eastern Mennonite Missions, P.O.
