Dola Jean Shanower, 80, of New Philadelphia, died May 3, 2010, at Country Club Retirement Center, Dover.Born August 8, 1929, in Ragersville, Dola was the daughter of the late Ralph and Alverda Zimmerman. She graduated from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School in 1947, and was a member of First United Church of Christ, New Philadelphia, TOPS, and the Birthday Club.Surviving are her husband, Bert Ed C. Shanower, whom she married in 1947; children, Judy (Bob) Yakley, Don (Rebecca) Shanower, and Ralph (Terri) Shanower, all of New Philadelphia, and Ray (Barbara) Shanower of Strasburg; sisters, Arlene (Don) Matchett of New Concord and Gail (Frank) Rossi of Dover; brother, Jim (Bernice) Zimmerman of Brightwood; eight grandchildren, James (Leann) Yakley of Dover, Stephanie Yakley of Uhrichsville, Shane Shanower of Stone Creek, Shana (David) Norman of New Philadelphia, Rocky (Courtney) Shanower of Sugarcreek, Sarah (Scott) Whiddon of New Philadelphia, Eddie Shanower of Sugarcreek, and Randy Shanower of Austin, Texas; three stepgrandchildren, Ryan (Cindy) Beach, Matthew (Darcee) Beach, and Taylor Beach; eight great-grandchildren, Ava, Aiden, Evan, Mallory, Rigsby, Silas, Scenic, and Brendan; a stepgreat-grandchild, Willow; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Services were held May 6, 2010, at the Geib Funeral Center, Dover, with Pastors Jeff Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating.
