Clara E. Secrest, 91, of Strasburg, died March 16, 2010, at her son and daughter-in-law’s home, surrounded by her family.Clara was born Nov. 8, 1918, in Dover, to the late Jack and Osie Granger. She was a licensed beautician and owned and operated the former Clara’s Beauty Salon, Dover. She also taught at Tusco Beauty School for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, New Philadelphia, and First United Methodist Church, Dover. She enjoyed going on Canadian fishing trips and spent much of her spare time oil painting.Surviving are sons, Jeff Secrest (Melissa Esper) of Massillon and Marvin “Butch” (Katie) Secrest of Strasburg; sisters, Ruth Pica of Dover and Evelyn Belgrave of Strongsville; six grandchildren, Jeff (Hanna), Mark (Amanda), Chad (Jennifer), Marvin Jr. (Christy), Dan, and Connor; and four great-grandchildren, Tia, Draven, Collin, and Sofia.Clara was a dog lover and leaves behind her shitzu, Boomer. She also leaves behind Marvin’s yorkie, Brandy, who was her favorite.She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Secrest, whom she married in 1938; and brothers, Clarence Thomas and Harry Granger.In honoring Clara’s wishes, cremation will take place through Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover. Memorial services will be held March 20, 2010, at 1 p.m., at First Lutheran Church, Strasburg, with Pastor Steven Woyen officiating.
