Mothers’ Study Club IV is an Orrville nonprofit organization that’s been around for 50 years. “We do one or two fundraisers per year, and all the money we raise is given out to local families and charities,” member Lindsey Hill said.

The club’s used formal dress sale has become a big fundraiser for the group. This year’s event will be Saturday, March 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Schmid Hall, 501 Hall St., Orrville. This will be the fourth year for the sale.

“Not only does it help make money, but it helps girls buy dresses at a discounted rate who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford that type of dress,” Hill said. “So it’s a win-win.”

Individuals are invited to bring in their gently used formal dresses during designated drop-off hours. The group charges $10 per dress to those who bring in their items to sell.

Some people bring in a dress, pay the $10 and simply donate it. Others choose to pay the fee and sell their dress on consignment for the price of their choosing.

Leftover dresses that have been donated will be given to another Orrville mothers’ club at the end of the sale.

Hill said, “They will be having a fairy god mother event where they give dresses to girls in need.”

For those interested in purchasing dresses, the club tries to stay current in posting pictures on their website as items are dropped off. Clean, gently worn dresses on hangars may be dropped off at the hall on Friday, March 2 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday morning, March 3 from 8-9 a.m.

Anyone wishing to reclaim a dress if it doesn’t sell must pick it up at the hall on March 3 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Dress sales are cash only. Photos of dresses may be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/buyorsellpromdress/ and on Instagram at @mother.study4.

Mothers’ clubs have been around all over the country since the turn of the last century.

The Mothers’ Study Club IV donates to a wide variety of local groups and individuals, making a different donation every month. “We also give scholarships to two high school seniors every year,” Hill said.

There are spots available in the group for new members at this time. Any mother of any age is invited to join. Email Hill for more information at lindseymariehill@gmail.com.
