Millersburg merchants enjoy connecting with kids during Millersburg Elementary Halloween Parade
Forget the ghosts in the Victorian House. On Friday, Oct. 30, Historic Downtown Millersburg was invaded by a multitude of ghosts and goblins, not to mention princesses, sports heroes, cowboys and just about any other kind of characters imaginable. The entire Millersburg Elementary School student body donned their finest Halloween apparel as part of the annual Millersburg Elementary Halloween Parade. With the Millersburg police manning the busy intersections to ensure the safety of the children, and teachers guiding the way, the students made their way from the elementary school, down Jackson Street and through town all the way to the last light. They then made a turn and headed back east where the businesses along that side of the street doled out all kinds of treats, with no tricks to be found. This is a great day to get out here and support the kids, said Les Roach of All Things Retro. Its neat seeing all of the costumes and smiling faces on the kids.Randy Ramsey, owner of Village Antique Emporium, said the chance to get out and do something different and unique during the day makes it entertaining for the business people as well as providing a fun break for the students.Just a great day for everyone involved, Ramsey said. We enjoy seeing them having so much fun out here. I really think this is great for the whole town because it shows a lot of community spirit.Sue Szpila, owner of The Jewelry Store, said she has been handing out candy for a long time to the Millersburg trick-or-treaters, and she knows it is something that both business owners and kids look forward to each year.I look forward to this every year, and I think we as business people enjoy this as much as the kids do, Szpila said. I always try to tell visitors in town to make sure they stop in during the event and watch because it is fun to watch all the children in their costumes parading up and down Jackson Street.
