Knights pull out a win in twin bill slugfest

Saturday was not a good day for pitchers and their stat sheets at West Holmes.The Knights hosted the Redskins from Coshocton in a twin bill that saw the two teams combine for 57 runs and 49 hits as each team picked up a win.The Redskins won the opener 12-10, but the Knights bounced back to take the second game 18-17.Coshocton jumped on freshman lefty Gabe Snyder for four runs in the first two innings, and knocked him out with three in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead.The Redskins tallied four in the top of the fifth to go up 11-3, but the Knights rallied for six runs in the home half of the frame to pull within 11-9. Coshocton put the game away with a run in the top of the seventh.Joey Gonzalez launched a two-run homer in the first game, and Keaton Leppla and Mason James added two hits apiece to lead the offensive effort of the Knights.Blake Bunch, Dustin Carder and Derek Reusser worked in relief of Snyder, who struck out six. Carder walked two and struck out two, and Bunch walked a pair.In the second game, the Knights scored nine times in the first inning, but trailed 12-9 after three innings. The Knights tied the game at 12 with three in the fourth.The Redskins went ahead 13-12 and led 17-12 in the seventh inning, when West Holmes scored six times to pull out the victory, making a winner of Stewart Sabine, who worked in relief of Aaron McKee. Sabine fanned five and walked a pair. He was also one of five Knights who banged out two hits apiece.Gonzalez homered and singled twice to pace the attack in the second game. James, Kyle Hanna, Garrett Mackey and McKee had two hits each.The Knights defense committed five errors in each game.West Holmes improved to 2-3 with the split.
