Joan Meese, age 87 of New Philadelphia, died Jan. 12, 2019, in Hennis Care Center at Dover.

Born in Brightwood on Nov. 16, 1931, Joan was the daughter of the late Lawrence Eli and Mary Emma (Coventry) Meese.

Joan was a 1949 graduate of Midvale High School. She worked for numerous years with the former Warner and Swasey, ultimately retiring from Gradall in 1997 with its traffic department.

Joan was active with the Midvale United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Midvale Women’s Club, the Gradall Old Timers and also the Warner & Swasey Athletic Association.

Joan’s family includes her nieces and nephews, Richard Meese, Dale (Vicki) Meese, Paul (Ruth) Meese, Darryl (Debbie) Polos, Pat Polos, Dave (Ruth) Meese, Dan (Bonnie) Meese and Penny Gramley.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her siblings, Harold Meese, Hugh John Meese and Mary Janice Polos, and her nephews, Dwite Polos and Eric Gramley.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 5-8 p.m. A service celebrating Joan’s life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. A meal will be held in the Geib Family Center, following the committal service.

Memorial contributions in Joan’s memory may be directed to either the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
