Tuscarawas County resident Shane Gunnoe has announced his intention to run for the open 98th District Ohio House of Representatives seat. The seat is being vacated by incumbent Al Landis, due to term limits, and the district includes all of Tuscarawas County and parts of Holmes County.

Gunnoe said, “I am running to fight to make Eastern Ohio an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”

Gunnoe, a Republican, enters the race with a strong business and political background. He has served 11 years on Dover City Council including the last four years as council president. In addition he has worked in the private sector for 12 years as a senior account specialist for Astro Inc.

Gunnoe’s goals include fighting to lower taxes on working families, creating a better environment for businesses to grow jobs in Ohio and finding solutions to battle the drug problem that has grown throughout the state.

He believes his five years on the board of directors at Community Mental Healthcare, a local nonprofit provider of substance abuse, mental health and crisis services, gives him a unique insight into the opioid epidemic in Ohio.

“The opioid epidemic is a major issue facing our country. We need people in state government who understand the magnitude of this problem and who will aggressively work to fight it.”

Gunnoe is a 10-year member of the Dover Exchange Club when he serves on the board of its Children’s Foundation. He also is an active member of the Tuscarawas County Republican Party, a member of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce and the Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau.

“I look forward to the opportunity to represent the people of District 98. I plan on meeting the people of the district and listening to the issues that they value most so I can effectively represent them at the State Capitol.”

Shane is a 2001 graduate of Dover High School and a 2005 graduate of Capital University. He and his wife Kelsie reside in Dover. The couple has one son, Brayden.
