Dr. Theodore J. McCoy
Dr. Theodore J. McCoy, 68, of Sugarcreek (Ragersville) died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 10:34 p.m. at the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia following a four-month illness.He was born Jan. 2, 1946 in Millersburg to the late Theodore R. and Ruth (Burris) McCoy. He operated his chiropractic office in Sugarcreek for 38 years. He was a member of First United Church of Christ at Sugarcreek, had served as Deacon and had held various other offices within the church. He was a life member of the NRA, a member of the Baltic Conservation Club, past president of the Sugarcreek Rotary Club, was an Army veteran and enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, woodworking, wine making and mushroom hunting.He is survived by his wife, the former Karen Brown, whom he married June 28, 1970; his son, Scott (Amy) McCoy of Westerville; his daughter, Andrea McCoy of Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Andrew, Samuel and Audrey; two sisters, Jean (Richard) Hostetler of Walnut Creek and Diana Burgett of Lancaster and a sister-in-law, Pam McCoy of Cumberland.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Larry and his sister, Alice.Memorial services were held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek with Rev. Eric Rummel officiating. The family received friends at the church one hour prior to services.Arrangements were handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek.The family suggests memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia 44663.
