Discount days a bonus for those attending the Wayne County Fair
During the Wayne County Fair, there will be three different days when people can receive discounts on either admission or ride passes. This year, Wayne County Schools Day will be Monday, Sept. 12, Stroller Day will be Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Senior Citizens Day will be Thursday, Sept. 15. These days encourage higher attendance numbers at the fair from community members. On Monday, Wayne County Schools are closed so that students can attend the fair during the day. Students will be given tickets to the fair and can take part in fair activities all day long. They can also purchase an armband for rides from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.Monday is a very busy day at the fair. According to Pete Armstrong, treasurer and secretary for the Wayne County Fair Board, We give out about 22,000 tickets that day. The weather also has an effect on attendance numbers, but it is usually a very busy day.Along with hundreds of students around the fair, bands from Wayne County schools will be performing at the grandstand starting at 9 a.m. A new band will perform every 15 minutes up until 11:30 a.m. in order to prepare for the evenings entertainment. The bands play and people come and go all the time, Armstrong said. People in the community enjoy listening to all the different bands play.Stroller Day will be on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Since the fair is so packed with students on Monday, its hard for the little ones to move through the crowd and have a fun time, so Tuesday is dedicated to making sure the kids in the strollers have a good time as well. The little guys dont get a chance to ride when the school kids are here, Armstrong said. Grandma or the baby sitter can bring down the strollers on Tuesday since the other kids are in school that day.Stroller Day runs from noon until 4 p.m., and only the kiddie rides are open since the big kids wont be there. This is the perfect time to bring small children to the fair so they can enjoy the rides and animals too. Anybody under the age of 6 gets into the fair for free.Another discount day at the Wayne County Fair is Senior Citizens Day, which is Thursday, Sept. 15, the last day of the fair. People 65 years or older are admitted free into the fair until 4 p.m.Thursday is the last day of the fair and there is not as much going on compared to the other days, Armstrong said. This makes it a little easier to get around and do things while its not so busy. While everyone in the community is encouraged to attend the county fair, these discount days make it a little easier to bring more people to the fair, while not hurting their wallets.
