Beverly Ann Hostetler, 81, Berlin died Friday, May 2, 2014 at her home.She was born August 22, 1932, near Holmesville, the daughter of Oris Hostetler and Anna (Hostetler) Kurtz.Beverly was a lifelong member at Martins Creek Mennonite Church, where she started a Peace and Social Concerns Committee in the 1980s. When her children were school-age, she worked as a cook at Berlin Elementary School. In her later years, she volunteered with the Pomerene Hospital Auxiliary and at a homeless shelter in Sarasota, Fla.She was a lover of flowers and an avid gardener, and she enjoyed poring over her plant books and seed catalogs. For several years, she had her own dried-flower business, called Bev’s Everlastings. She was an excellent bread baker, known especially for her anadama bread. She especially loved being a grandmother; her home was never without chocolate chip cookies.During retirement, she and her husband, Lyman Hostetler, enjoyed traveling to gardens throughout the U.S. and spending winters at their home in Sarasota, Fla. During the last years of her life, Lyman was a devoted and loving caretaker of his “Bup.” They were married 63 years.Surviving in addition to her husband are their children, Brad (Lee) Hostetler of Mansfield, Phil (Jody) Hostetler of Columbus, and Sheri (Jerome Baggett) Hostetler of Alameda, Calif.; siblings, Shirley (LaRue) Owald and Wanda (Roger) Miller, both of Berlin, and Duane (Eloise) Hostetler of Barberton; five grandchildren, Stephen, Jessica, Mitch, Cody and Patrick, and three great-grandchildren, Lily, Henry and Oscar.Beverly was preceded in death by her parents.Services were held Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Martins Creek Mennonite Church, 6111 County Road 203, Millersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 21 S. 12th St., P.O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501-0500 or to LifeCare Hospice, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.Arrangements were handled by Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.
