Attack Team topples Titans and Red Riders in duals

The Holmes Area Wrestling Club elementary Attack Team closed the Ohio Youth Wrestling Association Mid-Ohio Division dual meet season Sunday, Jan. 10 with a pair of wins, toppling Wooster Triway 85-63 before running rough shod over Orrville with an 82-18 thumping in action at Waynedale High School. The dual meet victories give the Attack Team a final 6-2 mark in OYWA Mid-Ohio Division dual meets and a 7-3 overall record. “The opening dual with Triway was back and forth through the first 20 matches or so,” Jarret Mathie, Attack Team wrestling volunteer head coach, said following the day’s action. “But we closed great winning six of the nine final contested bouts. I was very proud of the way the boys finished the dual meet never letting off the gas.” Scoring fall wins for the Attack Team in the match versus the Titans were Peyton Martin, Mason Taylor, Zeke Galbraith, Dylan Strouse, Blake Norman, Tucker Kaufman, Louden Dixon, Camden McCluggage, Payton Rouse, Camden Mellinger and Gabe Averbukh. Picking up a major decision win was Taylor Galion, while decision winners were Beau Norman, Connor Varnes, Landyn Dye, Colston Tenney and Easton Edwards. After an opening match loss to the Red Riders, it was all Attack Team from that point forward, the Knights winning 16 of the remaining 20 bouts against Orrville. Picking up fall wins against the Red Riders were Dixon, Strouse, Zach Snow, Kaufman, Varnes, Martin, Easton Ross, Justice Hendrix, Logan Vansickle and Jack Marmet. Scoring a major decision win was Hunter McCluggage while decision wins fell to Grady Toye, Beau Norman, Tenney and Galion. “We had a couple of matches where our boys gutted out some tough wins,” Mathie said of the dual with Orrville. “I’m very pleased with the way the boys wrestled today. It’s exciting to see the team get rolling as we enter the end of the season. We will look to keep the momentum going the next couple weeks.” All Star match winners for the Attack Team were Kalan Bowling, Noah Tish, Josh Carter, Marmet, Caleb Gregory, Christopher Williams, Martin, Jackson Vaughn, Galbraith, Camden McCluggage, Edwards, Chaz Kerr, Nick Ginsburg, Blake Norman, Josh Gregory and Rouse.
